A 38 year old male patient from Yemen with an inability to walk the past 14 years, due to a flexion deformity of the right hip. The patient consulted our Senior Ortho Consultant Dr Sandeep Manthena, the patient was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis of right hip, and total spine stiffness. Our team of expert doctors planned for an uncemented complex total hip replacement of right hip, under spinal anaesthesia. The procedure was started with the patient being placed in lateral position by posterior approach of the hip.
A femoral neck osteotomy was done and the acetabulum was removed with remnant head in-situ. A 44 size acetabular cup with 14 femoral stem was implanted. The stability was verified and the wound was closed in layers with suction, drain in-situ.
The patient recovered well and the drain was removed, the patient was hemydynamically stable during discharge. Within a duration of 1 week, the patient started walking comfortably. Further evaluation was advised, a knee replacement will be done by our expert Ortho Team.
